Deemed “cottagecore’s baking-obsessed sister” by Etsy, Gingerbread Girl represents a return to rustic, simplistic living as an offshoot of cottagecore. However, the emphasis here is on holiday baking. 

This style of decorating for the holidays is characterized by cheerful tones, vintage pieces, foraged decor, and cozy textures. 

Items like wreath sashes, ruffled bedding, gingham bedding, personalized recipe boxes, and holiday cookie cutters are flying off the shelves this holiday season as part of the Gingerbread Girl holiday decorating. So dust off those baking trays and add some vintage decor to your home!

Mantelscaping

Similar to tablescaping, mantelscaping is essentially decorating your mantel in an elaborate fashion. The mantelscaping movement also encourages adding your own personal style and flair to your mantel.

Remember the board game, Candy Land? Candycore is similar to that game, but with a little added Christmas magic. Its decor ranges from iridescent and sequined materials to scalloped placements, napkins, runners, and—of course—candy.

Grandpa Chic

Etsy characterizes this trend as a ‘masculine spin’ on Grandmillenial and Coastal Grandmother trends. 

In case you missed those trends (we did too), “Grandmillennial” is a combination of “grandmother” and “millennial.” It refers to an old-fashioned or more traditional aesthetic (think floral wallpaper, chintz fabric, and wicker furniture) that’s gained popularity among millennials in recent years.

Coastal Grandmother aesthetic refers to traditional or more old-fashioned looks in a beach context. White, flowy linens, vintage seashells, and seaside-prep are part of the Coastal Grandmother look.

All this to say, Grandpa Chic is less white linen/floral and more tobacco brown, dark wood, olive green, burgundy, leather, and plaid textile. In a sense, Grandpa Chic is cottagecore meets Ebenezer Scrooge’s pajamas. Apparently, Father Christmas is now Grandfather Christmas!

To decorate with Grandpa Chic in mind, lean into leather and wood items, wood and marble coasters, aged items, tarnished metals, and antique decor.

Old World Aesthetic

The Old World Christmas aesthetic incorporates natural elements into decor like linens, live garlands, oranges, cranberries, and pinecones.

Organic trimmings, such as nestling or wiring persimmon, lady apples, plums, and lemons in garland runners on stairways or mantels is one trend that’s become popular in certain Old World aesthetics.

Woodland-themed products like evergreens, traditional firs, and red berries also fall into this aesthetic category. Plus, you can even incorporate Old World Christmas ornaments into your decor.
